Xpect Vision Sensor 2 (XVD2530)
Photon-Counting Direct Imaging

The world's first photon-counting intraoral dental sensor. Direct conversion eliminates light-scatter blur, 25 × 30 mm imaging captures full molars edge-to-edge, and a 5-year replacement warranty comes standard at one-third the lifetime cost of Dexis or Schick.

What Makes Xpect Vision Different

Why Photon-Counting Sensor Technology Beats Traditional CMOS

Traditional Sensors use cesium iodide (CsI) scintillators — X-rays hit the scintillator, scintillator emits visible light, light hits the CMOS pixel array. Each conversion step adds blur. Xpect Vision skips the scintillator entirely.

Direct conversion

Silica-based semiconductor chips convert X-Ray photons straight to electrical signal. No CsI scintillator, no light-scatter blur, no enhancement passes needed.

Edge-to-edge 25 × 30 mm

One of the largest imaging areas in the size-2 class. Captures full molar roots in a single shot instead of two overlapping exposures.

5 mm thin profile

Slim housing reduces patient gag reflex. Designed with positioner ergonomics so chairside staff place it once and shoot.

500,000+ exposure life

Lab-tested to half a million exposures — roughly 20 years at a busy private practice's volume. No degradation reported during testing.

22 lb pull-strength cable

100,000+ bend-cycle tested. The cable, not the chip, is what kills most digital Sensors. Xpect Vision over-engineered this part.

FDA cleared, 5-year warranty

FDA-approved direct imaging device. Replacement warranty for 5 years out of the box — no $1,995/year extended-service contract to bolt on.

Sensor Hardware Compared

XVD2530 vs Common Size-2 Intraoral Sensors

Resolution, sensor area, thickness, USB compatibility — the spec sheet matters for both image quality and chairside workflow. Higher imaging area = fewer retakes on molars; thinner profile = less gag.

Honest trade-offs

Xpect Vision XVD2530 Pros and Trade-offs

Photon-counting is brand-new in intraoral Sensors. Here's where it wins, and where you should know what you're buying into.

Pros

  • 5-year replacement warranty as standard — no annual contract.
  • Direct-conversion photon counting eliminates scintillator blur.
  • 16-bit grayscale gives 4× the tonal range of typical 14-bit CMOS.
  • 500,000+ exposure life and 22 lb cable pull strength.
  • USB-direct interface, no separate control box required.
  • Outputs DICOM and 5 other formats — plugs into existing imaging software.
  • FDA-cleared and one-third of Dexis Titanium's 5-year total cost.

Trade-offs

  • Newer brand in the US market vs Dexis/Schick — fewer office-pool reviews.
  • One adult size available (XVD2530, 25 × 30 mm). Pediatric uses the XVD2121 Plus.
  • Brand recognition matters to some buyers — sensor sits invisible inside a mouth, but staff comfort with the name matters at training.
  • 5-year warranty is replacement-only; doesn't include accidental drop coverage outside normal use.
  • USDD ships continental US and Latin America; international shipping outside the network needs a quote.

Which Xpect Vision Sensor Is Best for Your Practice?

Xpect Vision XVD2530 by Practice Type

Six common buyer profiles. Pick the one that sounds like you.

SOLO GP

Replacing your first digital sensor

Your Dexis or Schick is 6+ years old. The XVD2530 cuts your replacement cost from $5,498 to "included in warranty."

MULTI-CHAIR

Standardizing across 4+ operatories

5-year warranty per unit at $3,999 means 4 ops × $15,996 instead of $43,980 for Schick 33 over 5 years.

DSO / GROUP

Rolling out across locations

Consistent purchase price, no per-office warranty negotiation, DICOM-compatible with most enterprise PMS systems.

ENDO / PROSTH

You need sharper periapical detail

16-bit grayscale (vs 14-bit) reveals canal anatomy and root fractures that get crushed in lower bit-depth Sensors.

PEDO

Pediatric and special-needs caseload

For smaller mouths, pair the XVD2530 with the XVD2121 Plus (21 × 21 mm imaging). Same brand, same software, two sizes.

NEW PRACTICE

Opening or refitting an office

One-time $3,999 capital cost with a 5-year warranty is easier to model on an SBA loan than $1,995/year recurring warranty fees.
