VK-018 PRO Curing Light EVALUATION

This broad-spectrum LED Curing Light features a high Light intensity, several easy-to-use preset programs, a durable yet lightweight design, and a built-in digital radiometer that ensures instant output.

VK-018 Pro Curing Light“For the last 5 years I had been using 3 different Curing lights and was satisfied with their performance...until I was asked to evaluate VAKKER Dental’s VK-018 Pro LED Curing Light,” said Jeffrey Briney, DDS. After using the Light for 3 weeks, he determined that “all attributes of this Curing Light are excellent” and was convinced that it was time for a change. “I realized there was something out there that performed better [than my other lights] and was easier to use.”

When he received the VAKKER VK-018 Pro, Dr. Briney put his previous Curing lights aside and used the new Light for every possible case. “Throughout the course of a dental procedure—whether I needed to cure a bonding agent, composite, build-up material, or adhesive—it was a great relief knowing that the VAKKER Curing Light was easy to use and fast,” he said. “Each time my assistant cured a material, [the Light] immediately activated without hesitation.” In today’s ever-evolving world of adhesive dentistry, Dr. Briney said the VK-018 Pro Curing Light is “a perfect addition for a seamless procedure.”

Light Intensity & Curing Capabilities

With a maximum Light intensity of up to 2,300 mW/cm2 , 3 preset programs (Turbo, Normal, and Ramp), and multiple timer settings, the VK-018 Pro broad-spectrum LED Curing Light is suitable for any direct or indirect restorative procedure. Dr. Roger Urlaub praised “the deep Light penetration and depth of cure for direct and indirect bonding” and the “fast Curing times and ramp Curing option,” although he recommended that VAKKER include a small diameter tacking tip. Dr. Bradley Dykstra called it “a good, solid Curing Light that’s fast and powerful,” Dr. Alan Pressman said, “The ramped option is amazing,” and Allan Mohr, DDS, cited the “high intensity of Light output and different settings” as his favorite features. Dr. Steven LeBeau likes the “guaranteed Curing in 20 seconds” and the ability to cure composite without heat, especially with a young autistic patient who felt no heat while Curing a restoration and bonded braces.

“I felt confident that the Light was Curing at all depths of the restoration, and seating veneers and crowns was consistent and reliable,” reported Dr. Briney’s assistant. When Dr. Briney used the VK-018 Pro during the veneer try-in phase, he said, “The true colors of the VAKKER Curing Light revealed themselves.” Because of the Curing Light’s ease of use with no interruptions and no lag time, Dr. Briney said, “The assistant performed flawlessly, and the adhesive and bonding stages were seamless. Not a single veneer dislodged because of a questionable cure time or depth.” Calling the tack cure setting “absolutely perfect,” he said, “The Light was consistent across the board” during direct restorative cases no matter which material he used. Explaining that the Light gives him “peace of mind knowing that the energy from the Light is slowly ramped up versus an immediate blast at 100%,” he reported, “I performed over 25 Class V restorations [with the VAKKER Light] and did not receive one call about sensitivity.”

Design & Ergonomics

The Light’s body is constructed of aviation-grade metal for extreme durability and heat dissipation yet is lightweight for clinician comfort. A cordless design and long battery life (up to 160 hours) ensure portability, while the easy-to-reach buttons and prominent display screen make it user friendly. “The outer casing is very durable, it is lightweight, and it has plenty of battery life,” said Dr. Pressman. Dr. Urlaub praised the “durable, quality construction,” and Dr. Mohr liked its Light weight but said it should be smaller in size. “Having a cordless unit is terrific” for portability, said Dr. Lucynda Raben, and Dr. Dystra liked the “nice ergonomics” but said the buttons could be larger and easier to feel. Dr. Briney’s assistant called it “by far the easiest Curing Light I have used,” and Dr. LeBeau praised the “great 90-degree occlusal interface with an easy-to-read digital screen.”

Built-in Radiometer

“Inadequate Light output can cause bonding failures or tooth sensitivity due to under-Curing composite resins,” reported Dr. Urlaub. Since “most dentists do not check the output of their Curing lights nor do they have the ability or instrumentation to do so,” he was intrigued with the Light’s “added bonus of a built-in radiometer.” He liked having the ability to objectively measure Light output and performance and said the digital radiometer reassures him that restorations are being completely cured.

Overall Satisfaction

“I will definitely be recommending this Light to other colleagues,” shared Dr. Briney, who said he has already “re-recorded many chairside videos to include this Curing Light as part of my teaching seminars.” Calling the VAKKER VK-018 Pro Curing Light a great value, Dr. Pressman said he is very satisfied with the unit, and Dr. Urlaub concluded, “It fell right in line with the other high intensity Curing lights I have in my practice.”
