DIFERENCE BETWEEN PEESO AND LARGO REAMERS

1. Design and Structure:

  • Peeso Reamers: Have long, parallel cutting blades and a non-cutting tip. The blades are usually straight and extend along the entire shaft. Peeso reamers are wider and more robust, ideal for aggressive cutting and shaping.
  • Largo Reamers: Also known as GATES-GLIDDEN drills, they have shorter cutting blades with a tapered design and a guide point tip to prevent perforations. They are generally more flexible than Peeso reamers and are used for more refined preparation.

2. Applications:

  • Peeso Reamers: Primarily used to remove gutta-percha (filling material) from the canal, create post space, and prepare canals for posts in restorative procedures. Their straight shape is ideal for widening the canal for post placement.
  • Largo Reamers: Used to flare the coronal and middle parts of the root canal, particularly in the initial stages of shaping the canal. They are often used in the preparation of the upper part of the canal, allowing better access for further instrumentation.

3. Cutting Efficiency:

  • Peeso Reamers: Are more aggressive and have greater cutting efficiency, making them suitable for removing more material quickly. However, their rigidity can increase the risk of canal perforation.
  • Largo Reamers: Less aggressive, offering more control during preparation. Their tapered design provides a smoother, more gradual enlargement of the canal, reducing the risk of accidental perforation.

4. Flexibility:

  • Peeso Reamers: Less flexible due to their larger, parallel blades. This can make them challenging to use in curved canals.
  • Largo Reamers: More flexible, which makes them a better choice for navigating slightly curved canals.
